Assam chief seeks impartial inquiry into Himashree Boro's death

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked Andhra Pradesh authorities and the railway minister on October 9 for an impartial investigation into student Himashree Boro's death. The circumstances remain under investigation.
In letters, Sarma called for a thorough, time-bound examination of her death and the events during her train journey. He sought accountability for anyone whose responsibility might be established.
Boro was returning to Guwahati after taking part in a dance event in Visakhapatnam. During the journey, she told her family she felt unsafe. According to The Hindu, she had objected to passengers drinking alcohol and recorded them on her phone.
Her body was found near railway tracks in Srikakulam district on October 7. Railway police preliminarily suspected a fall from the moving train, while her family alleged possible murder. Neither account has been presented as a final finding.
Police formed special teams to identify passengers, are recording witness statements and checking station CCTV. Her belongings were found in coach S2. Officers said they were awaiting the post-mortem findings.
Northeast Frontier Railway said a complaint about misbehaviour toward a woman passenger reached Rail Madad on October 6. Railway Protection Force personnel searched coaches at Srikakulam Road station but did not find her.
