Sergey Nekrasov backs Levi Garcia loan as beneficial to Spartak

Spartak’s general director assessed the striker’s move to Panathinaikos in an interview published Oct. 9. He also outlined limits on the club’s transfer spending.

Sergey Nekrasov told Sport-Express that he had been involved in arranging the loan and considered it beneficial to both sides. He declined to assess Levi Garcia’s original purchase, saying it predated his arrival. The club’s sporting department would continue monitoring the situation, he said.

Nekrasov said Spartak operates within an annual budget. Deals exceeding approved limits can be considered through a separate mechanism, but spending is not unrestricted. He declined to disclose specific budget figures.

He cited the absence of European competition, modest television-rights income and limited supporter spending on tickets, season passes and merchandise. In his assessment, Spartak cannot compete financially with leading European clubs.

Spartak bought Garcia from AEK in February 2025. Transfermarkt valued the deal at €18.7 million. The striker made 48 appearances for the Moscow club, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists.

His loan to Panathinaikos was announced Aug. 5, 2026, running through the 2026/27 season with a purchase option. Sport24 reported a €1.25 million loan fee and a €12 million option. The clubs did not officially disclose the financial terms.
