Attack damages Kyiv energy facility as emergency power cuts disrupt transport

An energy facility serving Kyiv was damaged in an attack, Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said. Emergency power cuts in parts of the capital have also disrupted metro and electric public transport.

Shmyhal said on October 8 that energy workers were restoring electricity but did not identify the facility or estimate the damage. DTEK had earlier announced emergency outages in Kyiv. The company said they were introduced on the instruction of grid operator Ukrenergo.

Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of Ukraine’s parliament, said the premises used by its energy and tax policy committees had lost power. Interfax reported that metro service was briefly suspended and electric public transport was restricted.

The reports about the damaged facility and power interruptions came from Ukrainian officials and the energy company. They gave no figures for casualties or a timetable for fully restoring electricity.
