Bars-NN serviceman killed while repelling drone attack in Nizhny Novgorod region

Governor Gleb Nikitin reported the first death among members of the Bars-NN unit. He said no civilians were hurt and the family of the serviceman would receive support.

Gleb Nikitin said a drone attack on Nizhny Novgorod region took place overnight from October 8 to 9. A Bars-NN serviceman was on duty while helping repel it and suffered a fatal injury. The governor described it as the first heavy loss among the unit’s personnel.

The serviceman is survived by his wife and two sons. Nikitin promised the family would receive all necessary assistance and thanked the serviceman’s colleagues. Kommersant and BFM also reported the death and the governor’s statement.

The governor said falling drone debris caused minimal damage to infrastructure and no civilians were injured. His statement did not give details about the serviceman’s location or the circumstances of the fatal injury.

Separately, Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted and destroyed 505 drones over Russian regions between 8 p.m. on October 8 and 8 a.m. on October 9. The ministry’s list included Nizhny Novgorod, Belgorod and other regions, the Moscow region, Tatarstan and Crimea.
