Ceiling collapse in Daegu injures 38 people during sales event

Thirty-eight people sustained minor injuries when ceiling finishing material collapsed on the second floor of a commercial building in Daegu, South Korea, on October 10. Nine were taken to hospitals, local officials said.
A kitchenware sales event for elderly customers was under way inside the four-storey building. Yonhap reported that the ceiling material fell at 10:16 a.m. local time.
The 66 people present evacuated the building after the collapse. Local reports described the injured as being in stable condition. The hospital transfers were part of the overall injury count.
Police began investigating the circumstances. No confirmed finding on the cause of the collapse had been announced in the reports.
President Lee Jae Myung was informed. His office said he instructed officials to make every effort to rescue people and ensure a thorough response.
