Zheng sets up Beijing final against Mirra Andreeva

Zheng Qinwen defeated Elise Mertens in the Beijing WTA 1000 semifinal, winning 7–5, 6–2 to reach the title match.
The October 10 match lasted one hour and 32 minutes. Zheng, ranked No. 54 in the world, beat the Belgian world No. 19 in straight sets.
She will face Russia's Mirra Andreeva, the world No. 5, in the final. The Beijing tournament offers more than $9.4 million in prize money, RIA Novosti reported.
According to the WTA, Zheng became the first Chinese player to reach the tournament's final. She won eight of the last ten games in the semifinal.
Her previous meeting with Andreeva also came in Beijing. In the 2024 quarterfinals, Zheng recovered after losing the opening set to win 5–7, 6–0, 6–4. This time, the two players will meet with the title at stake.
