Chuvashia resident receives lengthy sentence for sabotage

Chuvashia's Supreme Court sentenced a 22-year-old resident to 13 years and six months in custody over an arson attack on an electrical substation in Cheboksary. The regional prosecutor's office announced the sentence on October 9.

According to the office, the man received an assignment to damage energy infrastructure and set fire to the substation in October 2025. He had previously tried to burn another substation but abandoned the attempt after being spotted and fled.

Interfax, citing prosecutors, said the court found him guilty of sabotage and attempted sabotage. The offences were classified under Article 281 of Russia's Criminal Code, with Article 30 also applied to the unsuccessful attempt.

The convicted man is to spend the first two years in prison and the rest of the sentence in a strict-regime penal colony. The regional prosecutor's office provided the account of the offences and the punishment imposed by the court.
