Commanders run out of overtime against Giants in 27–27 tie

Washington and the New York Giants finished 27–27 on October 11, the NFL’s first tie of the season, after the Commanders failed to stop the clock for a potential winning kick.

Washington had no timeouts and was within roughly 41-yard field-goal range. Jayden Daniels went down without throwing on the final play, leaving eight seconds, but the offense could not line up and spike the ball before time expired.

The Giants had trailed 27–13 with fewer than eight minutes remaining in regulation. Two Jameis Winston touchdown passes brought them level and forced overtime.

Dominic Zvada missed a 46-yard field goal on New York’s opening overtime possession. After Washington went three-and-out, the Giants drove back to the Commanders’ 24-yard line, where Sonny Styles forced a Cam Skattebo fumble.

The draw left the Giants at 3–1–1 and Washington at 1–3–1. New York remained atop the NFC East after Dallas and Philadelphia also lost.
