IndiGo flight diverted to Hyderabad after smoke from passenger’s device

An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai diverted to Hyderabad on October 11 after smoke was detected from a passenger’s personal electronic device. The airline said cabin crew brought the situation under control and the aircraft landed safely.

Flight 6E 6115 landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The pilots changed destination in line with the carrier’s established procedures, IndiGo said in a statement carried by PTI and other Indian news outlets.

The device had been kept in an overhead baggage compartment. Reports described it as a possible power bank, but the airline’s statement identified it only as a personal electronic device.

IndiGo said it arranged another aircraft so passengers could continue to Chennai. It also offered refreshments and updates while handling the disruption, and apologised for the inconvenience.
