Conference examines consumer protection in the digital economy

More than 350 participants from 23 countries and four international organizations discussed consumer protection in the digital age, Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova reported on October 9.
Delegates examined the risks and opportunities of digital markets, focusing on consumer safety and unfair online commercial practices. Popova chaired a plenary session on the future consumer.
She said artificial intelligence creates new vulnerabilities and described protecting citizens' rights amid digitalization as a priority.
Popova called for closer international cooperation and exchanges of good practices. The announcement concerned discussions and her policy position. It did not announce new binding requirements for companies, an international agreement or additional rules for shoppers.
