Court remands man accused of scalding former wife in Balashikha

A court has remanded a man aged 40 in custody over allegations that he poured boiling water on his former wife in Balashikha, Moscow regional prosecutors said on October 16. He denies guilt.
Investigators allege that the man poured boiling water from a kettle on his former wife on October 8. Police reported the incident on October 13, when the suspect was taken to a police station.
A criminal case was opened over intentional infliction of serious bodily harm. Prosecutors said the man had several previous convictions, including for offences against individuals.
The prosecution argued that detention was necessary because he might flee or pressure the woman and witnesses. The court accepted those arguments and ordered custody.
