Former Brazil footballer Dani Alves has posted a video supporting presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, describing his choice as “the politics of obedience.”
Alves said in the video that the Holy Spirit had whispered Bolsonaro’s name and campaign number to him twice. He urged the candidate to remain humble. The clip went viral, ANSA reported. Brazilian and regional outlets also reported the video and Alves’s endorsement.
The presidential runoff is scheduled for October 25. Official first-round results gave Bolsonaro 47.03% of valid votes and incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva 45.16%. Neither candidate secured a majority.
Alves, a former player for Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, now works as an evangelical preacher. He was previously convicted in Spain in a rape case, but an appellate court later acquitted him.
