Palestinians who lost their homes described destruction, food shortages and long waits for water on the anniversary of the October 7 attack.
Shehada Hamad, displaced from Beit Hanoun, told CNN Brasil that each day of the past three years felt like “a million years.” Before the war, her family had a home, work and basic necessities. Now, she said, people rely on communal kitchens for food and sleep on sand.
Akram Abu Jarad, 60, also displaced from Beit Hanoun, described waiting for water for hours in the early morning. He said people queue from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and live in the streets without a home, food or basic conditions.
The report says the October 7, 2023 attack killed 1,200 people in Israel and 251 were taken hostage. Subsequent Israeli bombardment and ground operations have killed more than 74,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities.
This was the first anniversary since the U.S.-mediated ceasefire agreement of October 10, 2025. It halted major fighting but, according to the report, did not stop Israeli attacks in Gaza or secure the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups. Palestinian health authorities say more than 1,400 people have been killed since the truce. The Israeli military reported five of its soldiers killed over the same period.
