European Commission transfers €2.86 billion for Ukrainian defence procurement

The European Commission transferred €2.86 billion to Ukraine on October 14 under the defence component of its €90 billion support loan. The payment is intended to finance urgent military procurement.
The EU’s official announcement lists drones, air defence systems, missiles, radars, electronic warfare systems and ammunition among the products covered. The transfer provides financing and does not itself confirm delivery of the equipment.
The loan programme covers 2026–2027. Its indicative allocation is €60 billion for defence and €30 billion for budget assistance, according to the Commission.
This payment is separate from the €1.24 billion announced on October 8 for drones and missiles. Both disbursements form part of the broader financing programme rather than additional commitments on top of the full €90 billion loan.
