Nazrul Islam, 29 at the time, left home in Chandpur district in 2017 saying he was going to Dhaka and never returned. His family does not know whether he reached the capital.
Islam’s phone has been switched off since he disappeared. His 65-year-old father, Gias Uddin Bepari, has spent nearly nine years searching with his son’s photograph and national identity card. Bepari lives in Matlab Dakshin and works as an auto-rickshaw driver. He told Prothom Alo that he had looked for his son in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Cumilla and Chandpur.
The family said Bepari filed a missing-person report with police about 10 days after his son left. Relatives and acquaintances also searched for Islam, and his photograph was shared on social media and in news outlets. His uncle, Mohammad Siam, said the search had not found him.
Matlab Dakshin police chief Hafizur Rahman told the newspaper he would review the report and try to locate Islam. The article did not say police had established his whereabouts or received new information about the disappearance.
