Finland announces Ukraine defence aid worth about €1 million

Finland has announced its 35th defence assistance package for Ukraine, valued at approximately €1 million. The delivery comprises items of a single defence product, the Finnish Defence Ministry said on October 9.

Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen said the decision was accelerated in response to an urgent Ukrainian request. Yle reported that the items would come from Finnish Defence Forces stocks. The exact contents, delivery schedule and transport arrangements are being withheld for operational security.

The ministry values defence materiel already provided at €3.6 billion. Finland announced its previous, 34th package in September, worth approximately €290 million. The new package is substantially smaller in monetary terms, but its value does not disclose the number or characteristics of the items supplied.

Yle also reported preparations for a subsequent, broader package. Russian authorities oppose Western arms deliveries to Ukraine, arguing that they hinder a settlement. Finland describes its assistance as support for Ukraine's defence against Russian aggression.
