France considers terrorism classification for Limoges town hall arson

The arson attack on Limoges’s historic town hall could be classified as terrorism, French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said. No final decision has been announced.

The minister said the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office was monitoring the investigation. Speaking to CNews, he said prosecutors were considering whether the attack was organised and had a terrorist purpose.

The town hall was damaged by arson during unrest accompanying protests over the high cost of living. The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office must decide whether to take over the case.
