FT: Europeans reject US proposal to unfreeze some Russian assets

Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner proposed that Europeans unfreeze some Russian assets to revive Ukraine peace talks, but were rebuffed, the Financial Times reported. Interfax cited the report on October 15.
The newspaper said the proposal was raised during talks in Miami last week involving representatives of Ukraine, Britain, France, Germany, the European Union and NATO.
An American source described discussion of frozen assets as part of work on a comprehensive peace agreement. The mechanisms for releasing and using the funds remained under discussion, the source said.
The Florida meeting was originally scheduled for two days but lasted one. Western media reported that Ukraine's delegation ended its contacts after news of the Russian diesel arrangements.
