Garand matches Shesterkin mark with five wins in six Rangers starts

New York Rangers goaltender Dylan Garand earned his fifth NHL victory in his sixth career start, matching a club mark shared by Igor Shesterkin and Cam Talbot.
The Canadian reached the milestone on October 13 local time in a 4-1 home victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Garand made 25 saves and allowed only a goal by Zemgus Girgensons.
The Rangers’ official website identified the achievement as the fewest starts required for a goaltender to collect his first five wins with the team. Garand joined the two previous holders rather than setting an outright new record.
The 24-year-old has won all three games he has started this regular season. His latest two starts followed Shesterkin’s injury against Washington on October 10.
Alexis Lafreniere scored twice against Tampa Bay, with Will Cuylle and Mika Zibanejad adding a goal apiece. Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 19 shots. The result gave the Rangers six victories in their opening eight games of the season.
