Russia says it can meet Egypt’s grain import needs

Russia is ready to meet Egypt’s grain supply needs in full, Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko said in an RTVI interview on October 14.

Borisenko said shipments were continuing, with some cargo moving through the Baltic Sea. He attributed that routing to difficult conditions in the Black Sea and restrictions on vessel movements.

He described Russia as Egypt’s largest grain supplier. Citing 2024 as an example, he said Russia had supplied nearly 11 million tonnes out of the roughly 13 million tonnes Egypt purchased on international markets that year.

Those figures describe past deliveries rather than a new contract for 2026. Borisenko expressed Russia’s readiness to meet Egypt’s requirements but did not identify agreed additional volumes, prices or a shipment timetable.
