Gazeks ordered to pay over 2.7 million rubles after Nizhny Tagil blast
Nizhny Tagil's Dzerzhinsky District Court ordered a gas service company to pay more than 2.7 million rubles to the municipality. The flat's owner must pay over 900 thousand rubles, the Sverdlovsk regional prosecutor's office said.
The compensation order forms part of the case over the August 1, 2024 gas explosion on Sibirskaya Street. Two entrance sections collapsed, killing 11 people and injuring 12.
A Gazeks supervisor and two fitters were each sentenced to six years in a general-regime penal colony. The flat's owner received three years of restricted freedom.
Investigators linked the explosion to inadequate checks of gas equipment and violations involving the placement of a hose in the flat.
According to the Investigative Committee, total damage to residents and the municipality exceeded 230 million rubles. More than 140 people were recognised as victims and interviewed.
