German company insolvency filings rise in July

German courts registered 2373 company insolvency applications in July 2026. Figures released on October 9 and attributed to Destatis show an 8% increase compared with a year earlier.

There were 15 185 company insolvency cases registered between January and July, up 6.9% from the first seven months of 2025. The year-on-year increase for July was therefore greater than the increase in the cumulative total for the seven-month period. The two percentages cover different time spans.

Transport and storage had the highest insolvency rate. The source report next identified the hospitality and construction sectors. The figures concern businesses rather than personal insolvencies.

The statistics describe applications registered by courts and do not mean that every business involved has already ceased operating. Although the figures were reported in October, they cover July and the first seven months of the year.
