Tambaram police invoke Goondas Act against murder-case couple

Tambaram police have invoked the Goondas Act against two defendants in a Guduvancheri murder case. The Hindu and The Times of India reported the new action on October 10.

The defendants are Manik Uddin Laskar, 22, from Assam, and his wife, Bhagawati Majhi, 21. They were previously arrested on suspicion of killing Hayathun Nisha, a 38-year-old woman from Odisha.

The investigation began after remains were found in an unclaimed suitcase aboard the Tamil Nadu Express when it reached Agra from Chennai on August 5.

After reviewing CCTV footage, police searched a house on Mosque Street in Guduvancheri. According to the investigation account, other remains were discovered there.

Laskar and Majhi were remanded to Puzhal Central Prison. Invocation of the Goondas Act is a separate step following their initial arrests. Reports of the decision do not describe a criminal conviction, and the allegations remain under investigation.
