All Blacks beat Wallabies 50-19 at Eden Park

New Zealand defeated Australia 50-19 in the October 10 Bledisloe Cup Test in Auckland. The All Blacks pulled away after a closely contested first half.

Australia began strongly. Tom Wright scored a try around the seventh minute to put the visitors ahead. The All Blacks responded with two converted tries and a penalty to lead 17-7.

Wallabies captain Harry Wilson reduced the deficit shortly before halftime. New Zealand went into the break with a 17-14 advantage.

Early in the second half, Wright and Max Jorgensen helped Australia break through the defence and threaten the tryline. The attack produced no points, however, and the hosts subsequently took control.

A Sydney Morning Herald column identified the contest for high kicks as a major factor in the defeat. Its author argued that the Wallabies struggled both to field New Zealand's kicks and to create pressure with their own.

The All Blacks extended their lead to 43-14. Late in the match, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii won the ball after a kick and Australia scored another try. A final home try set the result at 50-19.

Australia has not beaten New Zealand at Eden Park since 1986. Rugby Australia reported that the defeat was Les Kiss's first as Wallabies head coach.
