India's SEBI aims to issue derivatives settlement guidelines within a week

India's securities regulator hopes to issue guidelines on derivatives settlement prices on expiry days in about a week, chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on October 10.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India is reviewing responses to a consultation on the closing auction session, which determines closing prices through an auction. The review addresses concerns about the mechanism's effects on derivatives settlement.

The consultation closed on October 3. SEBI said it had received around 20,000 comments by that evening. Pandey outlined the expected timetable at an event organised by the BSE Brokers' Forum.

Separately, SEBI is considering compliance requirements for brokers that vary with business scale, client exposure and reliance on technology. It is also preparing guidelines on artificial intelligence that would require accountability, data controls, emergency shutdown mechanisms and human oversight.
