Ranchi students demand scrutiny after first-year student's death

Police are investigating the death of a first-year student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Ranchi. Students protested after his body was found in a hostel, alleging delayed medical assistance, The Hindu reported on October 11.

The student was Aditya Kumar, from Purnia district in Bihar. The incident became known on the evening of October 10, when residents alerted the administration after finding his room locked from inside.

Khelgaon police station chief Nirbhay Kumar said the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences. The circumstances remain under investigation, and preliminary police explanations do not replace medical findings.

Protesters alleged that transport to hospital was not arranged promptly. First-year student Vaibhav told journalists that the ambulance lacked a driver. These remain students' allegations rather than established investigative conclusions.

The Times of India separately reported the death and protests, citing deputy superintendent Sanjeev Besra. He said the student's parents had been informed and that police had found no suicide note at the time of his statement.
