WSJ reports Iran is reinforcing defences ahead of possible renewed U.S. strikes

Iran is strengthening defences at sensitive sites and preparing its population for possible renewed U.S. attacks after November’s congressional elections, The Wall Street Journal reported on October 13.
The newspaper said satellite imagery showed reinforcement of nuclear sites and other locations. It also reported that Iranian officials had warned regional counterparts of retaliation across the Middle East if Washington launched new strikes.
Preparations described in the report include rallies, paramilitary visits to young children to recount wartime stories, and advertised training in firing defensive missiles. These measures were reported by the newspaper, rather than announced in a joint statement by the two governments.
President Donald Trump said the previous Thursday that U.S. forces would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, CNBC reported. That statement sets a period before which he ruled out action and does not establish that an attack will follow the vote.
CNBC said the Iranian and U.S. governments had not immediately responded to requests for comment on the Journal’s report.
