Gaza health officials report two deaths after Israeli strike in the south
At least two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike in southern Gaza on October 12, local health officials told Reuters. The Israeli military said it had targeted a militant in the area.
The military did not provide further information about the target in the report. The statements do not establish the identities or affiliations of the two people reported killed.
The incident comes amid renewed disputes over last October’s US-brokered ceasefire. Israel says Hamas has been rearming and launching attacks in breach of the agreement. Hamas denies those allegations and accuses Israel of undermining it.
Gaza health officials put the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire at at least 1,400. Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period. Both totals are attributed to the respective authorities.
