JSS University and Bajaj Foundation open free vehicle repair training centre in Mysuru

JSS Science and Technology University and the Bajaj Auto Foundation have launched a free three-month course in two-wheeler repair and maintenance in Mysuru.

The Service Technician Excellence Programme (STEP) centre was inaugurated at the JSS Technical Institutions Campus. The first intake has 60 seats, split evenly between electric-vehicle servicing and repair of vehicles with internal-combustion engines.

The hands-on courses include on-the-job training and are aimed at unemployed young people. Applicants for the EV course must have completed pre-university college, a diploma or ITI training and have studied science and mathematics. The ICE course is open to candidates who have completed secondary school, pre-university college, ITI or a diploma.

The university plans to train about 240 candidates a year, or 720 over three years. Successful trainees will receive placement assistance at service stations, authorized dealerships, showrooms and other automotive businesses.
