Kallas outlines €260 million investment in technologies for harsh Arctic conditions
The European Union is investing €260 million through the European Defence Fund in technologies for harsh environments, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said while presenting the bloc's new Arctic strategy.
Kallas cited aircraft capable of operating in severe environments and textiles for extreme weather. Her remarks, published by the European External Action Service, also listed over-the-horizon sensors.
The EU's new strategy covers security, the economy and climate. Under the plan, Brussels intends to strengthen cooperation with NATO and explore joint procurement and pooling to expand Europe's icebreaker capacity in the Arctic.
