Khachanov beats Mannarino in Shanghai to set up de Minaur meeting
Karen Khachanov defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-4 in the third round of the Shanghai Masters. He will face Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the next round.
Khachanov struck ten aces without a double fault in the October 11 match. He converted all four of his break-point opportunities. Mannarino hit three aces, also avoided double faults and converted the only break point he earned.
The Russian’s next opponent was still undecided when his victory was first reported. Tennis Australia subsequently confirmed that de Minaur beat Japan’s Rei Sakamoto 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 to secure the fourth-round meeting with Khachanov.
The ATP Masters 1000 event is being played on outdoor hard courts in Shanghai. The straight-sets victory over Mannarino put Khachanov into the last 16 of the singles competition.
