Krasnoyarsk region reports 982 bears killed in population-control operations

Krasnoyarsk region's natural resources ministry said 982 brown bears had been killed in population-control operations as of October 12. It warned that bears could still approach people in parts of the region.

The total is a cumulative figure reported by the ministry, rather than the number killed in a single day. NGS24 also reported the updated figure after an earlier tally from hunting oversight official Nikolai Maltsev.

The ministry urged residents and visitors to avoid trips into the forest and report encounters with bears by calling 112 or 102. These instructions form part of its current warning about the continuing risk.

Hunters and inspectors are working around the clock and responding to individual reports, the ministry said. Its notice did not declare that the danger had ended despite the population-control operations.
