Falcons await tests after Michael Penix Jr. injures ribs

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a rib injury late in regulation and missed overtime in a 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 11.

Penix was hurt on a hit by Tavius Robinson. He initially missed one play, returned for the end of regulation and then remained on the sideline as Atlanta's medical staff examined him. Tua Tagovailoa took over for the Falcons' overtime possession.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said further imaging and tests were needed before the team could set a timetable for Penix's return. The reports did not establish a rib fracture or another specific diagnosis.

Penix said he tried throwing on the sideline but felt the pain prevented him from giving the team what it needed. He expressed determination to be ready the following week, an intention that remains separate from medical clearance. Tagovailoa's overtime interception ended Atlanta's chance to respond, leaving the Falcons with a 2-3 record.
