Kryukova describes cultural patronage as sustained business commitment

Gallery owner Alina Kryukova says Russian entrepreneurs are increasingly supporting culture and regard it as a foundation for the country's future. Speaking to RIA Novosti at the Philosophy Takes Responsibility conference, she stressed the importance of long-term patronage.
Kryukova said business involvement in cultural projects goes beyond one-off donations. She pointed to the boards of trustees of federal and regional museums, where major companies are represented. Such partners support museum projects year after year, she said.
The gallery owner listed art exhibitions, creative competitions, festivals, grants and the restoration of historic monuments among the activities receiving support. She linked present-day initiatives to Russia's tradition of patronage, referring to Tretyakov, Morozov and Mamontov.
Kryukova attributed entrepreneurs' interest in culture to a desire to improve life around them, rather than focusing solely on immediate profits. Her description of business activity as unprecedented was an expert assessment. The interview published on October 9 provided no investment totals or statistical comparison over time.
