Yulia Navalnaya’s Nobel Peace Prize betting odds surged before announcement

Polymarket briefly put the widow of Alexey Navalny at a 65.5% chance of winning before her odds fell. The figures are market predictions and do not reflect the Nobel Committee’s decision.
Bets on the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner surged ahead of the announcement scheduled for October 9 in Oslo. Bloomberg reported that Yulia Navalnaya’s implied probability on Polymarket reached 65.5% at one point and later stood at about 46%. Trading volume on her outcome exceeded $1.7 million, while the overall market was just above $30 million.
The movement recalled the previous year, when wagers on María Corina Machado rose sharply before the 2025 award was announced. The Norwegian Nobel Institute later said an investigation found that an individual or state actor may have gained illegal access to its website. That inquiry was separate from the prediction market, which is not part of the Nobel selection process.
Navalnaya has continued the public work of her husband, Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny, who died in prison in February 2024. The report also noted that U.S. President Donald Trump campaigned for the 2025 prize and that Machado gave him her medal in 2026. Nobel Prizes are awarded annually in several categories, with the Peace Prize announced in Oslo.
