Chennai police constable detained after protest over daughter's medical care

Police detained Kothandapani on October 10 after he staged a black-flag protest near his home in Muthapudupet. He sought attention for allegations about his daughter's treatment ahead of Narendra Modi's visit to Chennai.
Kothandapani serves at the Avadi Tank Factory police station. The Hindu reported that Muthapudupet police took him in for questioning after the protest near his residence.
His complaints concern treatment at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore. The Hindu and The Times of India described his daughter as ten years old. He had previously accused the government hospital of medical negligence.
The hospital denies the allegations. The New Indian Express quoted director Rama Chandramohan as saying the father signed a document in 2022 acknowledging illness-related complications and the absence of medical negligence. His detention does not establish whether his allegations are substantiated.
