State Duma appoints committee deputies and completes formation of its committees

Russia’s State Duma approved 80 first deputy chairs and 85 deputy chairs of its committees on October 13. Rules commission head Viktor Pinsky said the chamber had completed the formation of its committees and commissions.
Pinsky said more than 30% of elected deputies who had participated in Russia’s military operation in Ukraine received leadership positions. The percentage describes appointments within that group of lawmakers, rather than its share of all committee leadership posts.
He noted that Vladislav Golovin chairs the youth policy committee. According to Pinsky, all parliamentary factions supplied information confirming that candidates for leadership positions had no conflicts of interest.
United Russia is represented in every committee and commission, while the Communist Party is represented in most committees. The other factions concentrated their representatives in selected areas. Pinsky attributed their choices to faction size and political priorities.
Lawmakers also unanimously supported Tatyana Moskalkova’s appointment as the State Duma’s authorised representative to the Constitutional Court.
