Marchenko matches Matthews with scoring start on Toronto road trips
Kirill Marchenko has recorded a point in each of his first four road games with Toronto. The Maple Leafs said Auston Matthews was the only other player to make that start for the club in the past 20 years.
Marchenko extended the run with a power-play goal against his former team, Columbus, in a 6-2 Toronto victory. He tied the game at 1-1 in the opening period after passes from Matthews and William Nylander.
Matthews registered points in his first four away appearances for Toronto in the 2016-17 season. Marchenko has now matched that start in the current campaign.
The goal against Columbus was Marchenko’s fifth of the season and his third on the power play, putting him level with Matthews for the team lead with the man advantage.
