Maria Zakharova to miss Budapest event because of illness

Coach Anna Tsareva confirmed that the Russian figure skater will not compete at Budapest Trophy, scheduled for October 15–18.
Tsareva told TASS on October 13 that illness was the reason for the withdrawal. Zakharova's name had earlier disappeared from the event's participant list, although she was still listed among entrants on the International Skating Union's tournament page.
Zakharova, 19, won bronze at the 2026 Russian championships. At her previous international event, the Denis Ten Memorial in Kazakhstan, she placed fifth with a combined score of 187.77 points across two programs.
Alina Gorbacheva is entered in the women's singles competition in Hungary. Russian ice dance entries include Vasilisa Grigoryeva and Evgeny Artyushchenko, as well as Milana Kuzmina and Dmitry Studenikin.
The coach's statement did not specify a diagnosis or a date for Zakharova's return to competition. The confirmed withdrawal concerns the upcoming event in Budapest.
