Mirra Andreeva to face Zheng Qinwen in China Open final

Mirra Andreeva reached the China Open final with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Nikola Bartunkova. The Russian will face Zheng Qinwen for the title on October 11.

Fourth seed Andreeva defeated the world No. 34 from the Czech Republic in the October 10 semifinal. The 19-year-old Russian is ranked fifth in the world.

AFP reported that the match lasted 74 minutes. Andreeva moved into a 4-0 lead in the opening set and converted her second match point. She hit 27 winners, while Bartunkova made 20 unforced errors.

In the other semifinal, China's Zheng beat Belgium's Elise Mertens 7-5, 6-2. Reuters reported that Zheng, who received a wildcard after recovering from an elbow injury, became the first Chinese woman to reach the tournament's final.

The title match will reprise the 2024 Beijing quarterfinal, which Zheng won. That quarterfinal had been Andreeva's best China Open result before this season.

Andreeva has six WTA titles, including the Roland Garros crown she won in June, her first Grand Slam title. Beijing will be her fourth career final at WTA 1000 level.

She won titles in Dubai and Indian Wells in 2025. This season, Andreeva lost to Marta Kostyuk in the Madrid final. The China Open, with a prize fund of $9.415 million, concludes on October 11.
