Eagles rule out Barkley and Smith before London game with Jaguars

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith will miss the Philadelphia Eagles' Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 11. Both were ruled out with hamstring injuries in the team's final report on Friday, October 9.
The absences remove two of quarterback Jalen Hurts' principal attacking options as Philadelphia tries to recover from a difficult defeat by the Los Angeles Rams. The Eagles enter the game with a 2–2 record, while Jacksonville is 3–1. Philadelphia surrendered a double-digit lead against the Rams and failed to convert any of its 12 third-down attempts.
Hurts completed 12 of 27 passes for 93 yards in that loss and was sacked four times. The performance added pressure on head coach Nick Sirianni and offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to adjust the attack for a game without Barkley and Smith.
Philadelphia has also released veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton remain behind Hurts. Dalton threw an interception on his only pass attempt this season, after temporarily replacing Hurts against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.
The injury designations apply to Sunday's game and do not establish when Barkley or Smith will return. The team's immediate challenge is to prepare its remaining players for Jacksonville while managing the changes in both its attacking personnel and quarterback depth. No new team for Dalton was announced in the reports.
