Moscow completes repairs to more than 550 residential facades

Moscow has repaired more than 550 apartment building facades since the start of 2026. More than 600 are scheduled for renovation over the full year, Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov said on October 9.
Biryukov said facades affect both a building's appearance and its thermal envelope. Different materials require different restoration methods. Brick surfaces receive water-repellent treatment to protect them from moisture and temperature changes.
For painted facades on panel buildings, workers first restore panel geometry, then seal joints between panels. The surface is subsequently primed and painted with two coats.
For facades clad in small ceramic tiles, workers use a polymer-cement mixture over reinforcing mesh. Biryukov said testing supported a service life of at least 30 years for facades repaired this way. He said the paints used have high vapour permeability, resist moisture and help retain colour over time.
