Moscow sets October 12 overnight temperature record at VDNKh station

The overnight minimum at Moscow's VDNKh weather station reached 12.5 degrees Celsius on October 12, the highest for that date in the station's records, forecaster Yevgeny Tishkovets said.

The previous record, 11.4 degrees, had stood since 1981. The new reading exceeded it by 1.1 degrees. The comparison concerns the overnight minimum at that station, rather than the daytime maximum.

Tishkovets, of the Fobos weather centre, said overnight readings above 10 degrees on this date had occurred on average once every 15 years. The latest temperature was close to typical summer night conditions: June's norm is 11.5 degrees, July's 13.5 and August's 12.

In central Moscow, the Balchug station recorded an overnight low of 13.6 degrees. Morning readings in the surrounding region ranged from 9.2 degrees in Serebryanye Prudy to 12 in Zheleznodorozhny. These measurements are separate from the VDNKh record.
