North Korea stages events ahead of ruling party's founding anniversary

North Korea is preparing to mark the 81st anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea on Oct. 10. State media report party, arts and museum events.

The Rodong Sinmun newspaper said the Union of Agricultural Workers held a celebration. Participants called for stronger party leadership and ideological education, as well as meeting the party's grain-production target.

The paper reported that a youth art-propaganda performance and the opening of a National Art Exhibition at the Korean Central Art Gallery took place in Pyongyang. It also said residents were visiting the Party Founding Museum.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that flower baskets from foreign leaders had begun arriving. It said Kim Jong Un received baskets from the presidents of Laos and Palestine, as well as from the country's military attaché corps.
