Norwegian ski federation seeks clarity on visas for Russian athletes
The Norwegian Ski Federation has asked the authorities to clarify visa rules for Russian competitors ahead of the winter season. Its president, Roger Finjord, said the federation remained opposed to their participation, RIA Novosti reported, citing TV2.
Finjord stressed that public authorities decide who receives a visa and that the federation must follow those decisions. He said the Norwegian sports confederation was discussing the issue with the government on behalf of individual federations.
Norway will host World Cup competitions in disciplines governed by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation. The first events are scheduled for Trondheim in early December.
In Sweden, the ski association and sports confederation are seeking visa refusals for Russian competitors at the 2027 world championships in Falun. Migration Minister Johan Forssell said legal grounds were being examined. FIS allows Russian athletes to compete under neutral status.
