Open flames extinguished at school in Russia’s Altai region

Firefighters extinguished open flames covering about 900 square metres at a school in Shilovo, in Russia’s Altai region, on October 12. No injuries were reported, the regional emergencies department said.

The alarm was received at 3:15 a.m. local time. The regional department’s initial report said the roof was burning when the first crews arrived. Police, investigators and a fire-testing laboratory were dispatched to the scene.

The response expanded during the operation. RIA Novosti’s initial account listed 14 emergencies ministry firefighters and six fire engines. A later update carried by Interfax reported 39 firefighters and 14 vehicles.

Crews continued working at the site after open flames were extinguished. The cause was still being investigated. Extinguishing open flames does not establish that the entire response has ended.
