Ostap Pasenok wins Russian freestyle wrestling absolute title

Ostap Pasenok won Russia’s absolute freestyle wrestling championship after defeating Konstantin Pshenichnikov in the deciding bout in Kemerovo on October 10.

The competitors first contested medals in the 97kg and 125kg divisions. The winners of those two events then faced each other for the overall title.

Pasenok won the 125kg final against Shamil Musaev. David Kabisov and Baldan Tsyzhipov took the bronze medals in that division.

Pshenichnikov defeated Azamat Zakuev in the 97kg final. Magomedarip Abdulkhalikov and Akhmed Bagavudinov shared third place.

WrestDag reported that Pasenok beat Pshenichnikov 3-1 in the deciding bout. RIA Novosti and a message from Kuzbass Governor Ilya Seredyuk also confirmed the overall winner. The championship was held under the auspices of the Shakhtyorskaya Slava tournament.
