Perm court doubles compensation for family of passenger who died aboard plane
The Perm Regional Court doubled the compensation payable by Perm airport to the widow and children of a passenger who died aboard an aircraft in February 2025, the court’s press service said on Oct. 13.
The man had visited the airport medical post before boarding with chest pain radiating towards his shoulder blade and a burning sensation. According to the account of the proceedings, a paramedic attributed the symptoms to a cold and gave him medication. He was not offered an ECG or hospital admission.
He then boarded with his wife and child. After his condition worsened, the aircraft returned to its parking position. A resuscitation specialist confirmed his death.
A medical examination ordered by the Motovilikhinsky District Court did not establish a direct causal link between shortcomings in the medical care and the death. The district court nevertheless awarded compensation for moral harm.
The regional court found that award insufficient and doubled the amounts payable to the widow, son and daughter. The compensation amounts were not disclosed in the reports. The appeal concerns the family’s compensation, rather than a finding that the medical shortcomings directly caused the death.
