Peruvian journalist criticises Hitler Mussolini name after mayoral election

Peruvian journalist Alberto Navarro Quispe criticised the use of fascist dictators’ names after Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores won a municipal election. He spoke to RIA Novosti in Moscow on October 9.

Navarro Quispe suggested the politician’s parents did not understand the significance of the names they chose. This is the journalist’s assessment rather than a verified account of the family’s motives. He urged greater education about Hitler and Mussolini and warned against reviving fascism.

Simeón Flores won the mayoral election in Queropalca, as Peru21 previously reported. Euronews also covered the result, saying the Ahora Nación candidate received 229 votes and finished 25 votes ahead of his closest rival.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had argued that such examples help normalise dictators’ names in public consciousness. Her comment is also an assessment, and the candidate’s name alone does not establish his political views.

Navarro Quispe was speaking on the sidelines of the second Global Digital Forum. The event runs in Moscow from October 8 to 10, with RIA Novosti serving as its general information partner.
