Peskov links proposed Siluanov role to financial coordination
The proposal for Anton Siluanov to combine the posts of deputy prime minister and finance minister reflects a need for additional coordination and financial discipline, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 19. He said the new position would carry broader powers.
Peskov linked the Finance Ministry's greater role to maintaining macroeconomic stability and budget discipline. A deputy prime minister oversees several agencies and departments under the division of responsibilities, he explained.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has submitted Siluanov's nomination for the combined role to the State Duma for approval. President Vladimir Putin supported Mishustin's proposed government personnel changes.
First Deputy Finance Minister Irina Okladnikova has been nominated as deputy prime minister and head of the government staff.
